Welcome to the Multicultural Connect! A gathering of multicultural information for residents living in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York area and beyond. Several goals are intended for this useful blog:
* To serve as a resource to keep current on information regarding English language learning as well as learning other world languages.
* To share information to newcomers to our country and our community.

We Are New York

Came across this useful website We Are New York, for English Language Learners created by the New York City’s Mayor’s Office of Adult Education and the City University of New York, Office of Academic Affairs.  It is now part of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs.
We Are New York is an Emmy Award-winning half hour TV show created to help people practice English.  Each story highlights important and realistic situations, like going to the doctor or talking with a child’s teacher.  The stories capture the spirit of people who have come from all over the world that have made the Big Apple their home.  The characters speak every day English, but at a slower pace.  Subtitles are used to help facilitate understanding of sentence formation and context.”
What makes this site useful is that it links you their past episodes and it includes resources, such as vocabulary used, a low level reader and a study guide that accompany the episode.
Great resource to direct to an ELL student and a Literacy Volunteer Tutor looking for materials to use to help their student.
