Long Island Language Advocates Coalition - LILAC

Long Island Language Advocates Coalition (LILAC) has been in the forefront advocating appropriate, timely and meaningful services for Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals who reside on Long Island.  The organization adheres to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which declares:

No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

LILAC’s advocacy has lead to an executive order, signed last November 2012 by Suffolk County Executive Bellone, which ensures language access for all Suffolk County residents — Making Suffolk County the 1st suburban county in the United States to pass this law.

County Executive Bellone Signs Executive Order Ensuring Language Access for All Suffolk County Residents.

Visit LILAC’s website to learn more about who they are and to find a listing of coalition members involved providing services to the LEP population.

The following PPT presentation is an assessment tool designed by LILAC for organizations providing services to the public.
